7th and 8th Grade Band



Learning Targets:
1) I can play the Bb, Eb, F, major scales and the chromatic scale at a "3" on our 4 point rating scale.
2) (Drummers) I can play the Single Stroke, Double Stroke, Five Stroke, and multiple bounce rolls. I can play the single paraddidle, flams, and flam taps.
3) I can play the  first two sections of our Western Region Audition Piece at a 3 on our 4 point rating scale.
4) I can sing tonic and dominant patterns in tune and find "Do" given a dominant pattern.
5) I can explain the purpose of key signatures
6) I can apply solfege to my instrument.

6th Grade Lesson Plan

Today is our excel excel playing rehearsal for 6th grade!

Learning Targets:
1) I can sing tonic and dominant patterns in tune.
2)  I can audiate and sing "Do" when given a dominant pattern to start.
4) I can apply solfege to my instrument in the key of Bb.
4) I can play Over the Rainbow (the whole thing) at a 3 out of 4 on our four point rating scale.
5) I understand section leader expectations.

Our Plan: 
1) Sign in and find your seat!

2) Review the rules and expectations for class! Brief talk about our Core Pack Values and how they relate to band. 1 min

3) Do you need anything to be successful? Get packets if you need them! Get reeds if you need them! (last day for this! Next time ask your section leader) 1 min

4) Standard of Excellence Book 1 intro of new material!  Page 33.  If you do not have your book do not panic! I have extras for most instruments. If I don't have an extra you can look on with a friend. But from now on PLEASE remember your book! 

5) Largo from the New World Symphony. (3-5 min. What do we need to do to get it to a three?)

6) Rock beat on the sets! "Just Fine." (3-5 min. What do we need to do to get it to a three?)

7) Chorale Duet (brief intro. and practice assignment 2-3 minutes)

8) Teacher vs. class for solfege. Let's sing a little! Hand Sign for "Do." Can you find "Do" after I sing a pattern? (3-5 min.)

9) Apply solfege to instruments! (3-minutes)

9) Over the Rainbow! Start at beginning and play to 21. Spot fix.  (1-2 minutes... our second time on this)

10) Run 35 to the end. (Our second time on this. (1-2 minutes)

11) Rehearse and play 35 to end by section. Clean up. (5 minutes)

12) Trumpets at 21! It's melody time! (5 minutes)

13) Run through the whole piece and spot fix. (Remaining time!)

14) Please remember to practice!

2) I can define partner songs. I can play Swing Low at a 3 on our 4 point rating scale
3) I can play All night all day at a 3 on our 4 point rating scale
4) I can define "chromatic scale."
5) I can articulate what songs I would like to play at the concert
6) I understand our new Section Leader role. I know how to volunteer if I want to.
