Welcome to our 6th grade band rehearsal! Today we will be focusing on the Hanging Tree, but there may also be time to address Radekzky March depending on how Hanging Tree progresses. We will be discussing starting up with the new books, and I PROMISE that we will take a break to play a few rhythm games and do some reading activities. We will be addressing quarters, eighths, eighth note and sixteenth note combinations, and triplets with our rhythm games!
This may be of help:
1) Come in to a recording of The Hanging Tree. Sign in on our attendance sheet.
2) Warm up with red books. We are starting page 42. Drummers will be doing rudiment review during this warm up. We will discuss the new warm ups that we will be starting once everyone has their blue book.
4) Listen to The Hanging Tree and briefly review last rehearsal. Raise hands when you have the melody. Review those sections first.
5) Run through "The Hanging Tree" and record. Self assess, Review of last "B" day's discussion: what needs improvement and why? How is it best to proceed?
6) Various rehearsal techniques, including student conductors, teacher modeling, and sectionals based on student feedback from step 5.
7) Run through and assess. Has there been growth? If yes, why? If not, why not?
8) Brain Break. Stretch. Teacher vs. Class. Tonal patterns and rhythm patterns. We'll play twice.
9) If there is time, revisit Radetzky March.
10) Closure and have a great day!
