6th Grade Band

Hello, and welcome to our 6th Grade Band Rehearsal!

I am very excited for today's rehearsal. At this point you should have Radetzky March, The Hanging Tree, and Pirates of the Caribbean!

Today we are going to be spending some time talking about our upcoming field trip to New Haven! We'll also be working on all three of our wonderful songs!

These may be of help:

The Hanging Tree: http://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/media-player.jsp?&type=audio&productID=10521227

Lesson Plan:

1) Sign in, field trip and permission forms

2) Warm up - Tradition of Excellence Book 2. You should all have the book

3) We will run through an imaginary concert to see what needs work. We will run through all three pieces. Do you have everything you need for each song? If not, now is the time to get it.

4) After run through discuss: what needs the most work and why?

5) Based on student discussion we will proceed to our first piece. Most likely this will be Pirates. We will reference the recording above, start rehearsing. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors, sectionals, and direct instruction.

6) Replay through. Was there growth? If yes, great. If not, why not.

7) Repeat above rehearsal techniques for our final two songs.

8) Exit ticket and closure.
