Welcome to our 6th grade band rehearsal! Today you will be getting your first student selected piece: "The Hanging Tree." We will be focusing on this song for the entire rehearsal, taking a break to play a few rhythm games and do some reading activities.
This may be of help:
1) Come in to a recording of The Hanging Tree. Sign in on our attendance sheet.
2) While you are setting up Mr. A will hand out The Hanging Tree.
3) Warm up with red books. We are starting page 42.
4) Listen to The Hanging Tree. Raise hands when you have the melody. We will rehearse these sections first.
5) Learn the melody with direct instruction.
6) After this, begin to construct the entire arrangement adding background parts.
7) Various rehearsal techniques, including student conductors, teacher modeling, and sectionals.
8) Run through and assess. First discussion: What do we need to focus on next rehearsal?
9) Brain Break. Stretch. Teacher vs. Class. Tonal patterns and rhythm patterns. We'll play twice.
10) If there is time, revisit Radetzky March.
11) Closure and have a great day!
