6th Grade Band

Hi All!

Welcome to our full band rehearsal. There is a LOT to do, and only 75 minutes to do it all, so we are going to have to purposeful and stay on track to get it all done.

You will walk in to recordings of "Be Still, My Soul" and "Appalachian Folk Dance" our two teacher selected pieces. You will sign in on the sign in sheet and take your seat in band. (click on the names of the pieces for audio recordings). Today we will be discussing student selected pieces.

1) Brief review of PACK in band. Brief review of 5 rules.
     When I am speaking you are listening.
     When you are speaking I am listening. We never speak over each other
     If you are playing an instrument, I promise to listen and/or play with you.
     If I am playing, you should be listening, or playing along with me.
     Keeps hands and instruments to yourselves

2) Student Selected Pieces

3) Warm Up Time!
     1) Red book #s 88,#131 and page 42 introduction (time for scales!)

4) Review! (Page 32 and 33 in Red Book - Reminder about lessons)

4) How to be a conductor! (third conducting lesson - you will be doing lots of conducting this year)

5) Volunteer Student conductors for "Be Still, My Soul" - I will play with all sections while student conductors lead.

6) Sectional rehearsals on "Be Still, My Soul." I will walk around and coach.

7) Direct Instruction on "Be Still, My Soul"

8) Introduction of NFMS Bands Performance Rubric. Explanation of criteria.

9) Self assessment on "Be Still, My Soul"

10) "Appalachian Folk Dance" (we will use the same rehearsal techniques as "Be Still, My Soul")
