6th Grade Band

Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!

Today we will be working on making more progress selected piece: Highlights from the Little Mermaid. We also want to run the remaining songs to keep them fresh in our mind.

Our Learning Targets:

(Percussion)  I can play a single stroke, double stroke, and five stroke roll. I can play flams and flam taps. Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major and chromatic scale.

I can play all of The Finale from the Firebird at  a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the entirety of the Theme from Symphony #9 at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play Happy at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale

I can play the introduction to Little Mermaid at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale and the Calypso part of  the Little Mermaid at a 2 or higher on our 4 point rating scale.

Here is our plan:

1) Get set up and in your seats quickly.  Make sure you have your red clip. We will review our learning targets. You will find a copy of "The Little Mermaid" on your instrument stand. New bathroom/question routine will be reviewed.

2) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

3)Run the introduction to Little Mermaid. Is it a 3? If not, why not? What needs work? Self assess and rehearse.

4) Introduce the Calypso portion. Instructional techniques include teacher modeling and direct instruction.

5) After working on The Little Mermaid we are going to run the other 3 pieces from our concert as if we were performing them.

6) Rating scale discussion. What went well? Why? What didn't go well? Why? What do we need to practice this week?

7) Practicing assignments!

I look forward to seeing you for excel!
