6th Grade Band.

Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!

Today we will be getting our second student selected piece: Highlights from the Little Mermaid. We also want to run the remaining songs on our concert and discuss where we are in terms of concert preparation.

Our Learning Targets:

(Percussion)  I can play a single stroke, double stroke, and five stroke roll. I can play flams and flam taps. Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major and chromatic scale.

I can play all of The Finale from the Firebird at  a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the entirety of the Theme from Symphony #9 at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the introduction to the Little Mermaid at a 2 or higher on our 4 point rating scale.

Here is our plan:

1) Get set up and in your seats quickly.  Make sure you have your red clip. We will review our learning targets. You will find a copy of "The Little Mermaid" on your instrument stand. New bathroom/question routine will be reviewed.

2) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

3) It's time for the introduction to Little Mermaid. We will be using direct instruction techniques today. We will be learning about quarter note triplets. We will start by counting and hopefully today we can learn the introduction to a 3 on our 4 point rating scale. Our goal is to learn up through Under the Sea at a 2 on our 4 point rating scale.

4) After working on The Little Mermaid we are going to run the other 3 pieces from our concert as if we were performing them.

5) Rating scale discussion. What went well? Why? What didn't go well? Why? What do we need to practice this week?

6) Practicing assignments!

I look forward to seeing you for excel!
