7th Grade Band

Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 7th Grade!

We have a lot to do today and not a lot of time to do it due to the assembly.  Today our goal is to make sure we have Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring roughed in so we can work on polishing. We also want to make sure that "My Shot" from Hamilton is at least a 3 on our 4 point rating scale. Our goals are the same as the last 8th grade rehearsal. I know can achieve them!

Our Learning Targets:

(Drums)  I can play 2 variations of the hip hop beat on the drum set at least a 2 on my 4 point rating scale.

Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major, Eb major, and F major scale with arpeggio

I can evaluate my performance using our 4 point rating scale and give concrete examples of how to improve.

I can play Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring at a 2 or more on our 4 point rating scale.

Here is our plan:

1) Take your red clip and sign in! We have extra copies of all the music in the section already.

2) Objective discussion: Jesu

3) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

4) We will be starting with "Jesu" We will be discussing what playing 3/4 time "in one" means. We will practice counting and clapping. The key here is to understand how the counter-melodies interrelate. I will be demonstrating at the piano. However, PRACTICE is key to this. You must learn your part well if we are going to be able to play together without phasing.

5) Mr. Akter will model the piece at the piano. We will be building this bottom to top.

6) Add parts with scaffolding from the piano. Practice counting.

7) Rehearse in sections with modeling. Run through the whole piece. Is it at least a 2? If not why not? What can we do to improve this piece?

8) Run Hamilton with Rapper. Review hip hop beat on drum set.

9) Practicing Assignments.

I look forward to seeing you for PLC!
