7th Grade PLC

You will need your instruments and music. Today we will be working on Les Miserables, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, our three chorales and a new steady beat / rhythm game.

Our goal today is to get Les Mis polished, start polishing Jurassic Park, and rough in Lord of the Rings.

We will be covering 3 major scales and the chromatic scales in warm ups, and making sure we have Smart Music and Embouchure / technique goals set for everyone, and that you know what those goals are! There is a TON to do. Drummers, we need to make sure our 6 essential rudiments are memorized and that our multiple bounce rolls sound "tight" and controlled.

This may help:

6th Grade PLC

Hello, and welcome to our 6th Grade Band Rehearsal!

I am very excited for today's rehearsal. At this point you should have Radetzky March, The Hanging Tree, and Pirates of the Caribbean! Last rehearsal we focused a lot on Pirates and did a lot of rehearsal. We didn't get to everything on the plan we had for last rehearsal. Today it's really important that we get past Pirates and focus on all three of our pieces. No matter how we sound on the newer songs, we are going to run through the entire concert with out stopping first, discuss what needs improvement, and rehearse from there.

Today we'll be working on all three of our wonderful songs!

The Hanging Tree: http://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/media-player.jsp?&type=audio&productID=10521227

Lesson Plan:

1) Sign in, field trip and permission forms

2) Warm up - Tradition of Excellence Book 2. You should all have the book

3) We will run through an imaginary concert to see what needs work. We will run through all three pieces. Do you have everything you need for each song? If not, now is the time to get it.

4) After run through discuss: what needs the most work and why?

5) Based on student discussion we will proceed to our first piece. Most likely this will be Pirates. We will reference the recording above, start rehearsing. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors, sectionals, and direct instruction.

6) Replay through. Was there growth? If yes, great. If not, why not.

7) Repeat above rehearsal techniques for our final two songs.

8) Exit ticket and closure.
