8th Grade Band

You will need your instruments and music. Today we will be working on Uptown Funk Michael Jackson's Thriller, Uptown Funk, and My Favorite Things along with 3 chorales and a new steady beat / rhythm game.

Our goal today is to polish and move every piece from a 3 to a 4.

We will be covering 3 major scales and the chromatic scales in warm ups, and making sure we have Smart Music and Embouchure / technique goals set for everyone, and that you know what those goals are! There is a TON to do. Drummers, we need to make sure our 6 essential rudiments are memorized and that our multiple bounce rolls sound "tight" and controlled.

Everything we do today will be with student conductors! We will be using thumbs up and thumbs down technique so I know who to help as I play with the band. We will use the thumbs up thumbs down information to break into groups and do sectional rehearsals and teams in the hall way if necessary.

We will be getting feedback on the idea of having student conductors on the concert

2) PACK and Band! (review)

     a) BRIEF review of our norms

     b) IMPORTANT. Is there anything you need today to be successful.

3) Warm Ups and Tune - "Tradition of Excellence Book 2 - Page 2 and page 42. Explain Bb, Eb, and F Concert major scales, the chromatic scale, the chorales, and audition requirements.

Break for Lunch

4) Run Through of Concert as if we were on stage with student conductors. Discussion of whether or not we want to do it this way on stage at the concert. Pros and Cons.

5) Polish My Favorite Things.

6) Polish Uptown Funk

7) Polish Thriller

9) Run through the concert (either with Mr. A conducting or with student conductors, based on above discussion). Make a list of what still needs work as a class. Publish this list to classroom.
