6th Grade Band

Hi All!

Welcome to our full band rehearsal. There is a LOT to do, and only 75 minutes to do it all, so we are going to have to purposeful and stay on track to get it all done.

Last rehearsal was a real "break through" rehearsal on both  "Be Still, My Soul" and "Appalachian Folk Dance." The amount of progress was just stunning. You sounded awesome!

Today, you will sign in on the sign in sheet and take your seat in band. Then we will be doing some "book work" and reading exercises.  We will be continuing the use of the pre and post assessment tool of recording ourselves and discussing our performance which delivered so much improvement for us the last three rehearsals.

You student selected pieces have been ordered! We will start them next rehearsal!

1) Brief review of PACK in band. Brief review of 5 rules.
When I am speaking you are listening.
When you are speaking I am listening. We never speak over each other
If you are playing an instrument, I promise to listen and/or play with you.
If I am playing, you should be listening, or playing along with me.
Keeps hands and instruments to yourselves

2) Warm Up Time!
     1) Red book #s 88,#131 and page 42 introduction (time for scales!)

3) How to be a conductor! (fourth and final conducting lesson - you will be doing lots of conducting this year)

4) Pre-assessment on "Be Still, My Soul." We will record ourselves performing this piece first. Then we will listen to  and analyze our performance.

5) Rehearse using student conductors, direct instruction, and differentiated small groups.

6) Direct Instruction to cover trouble spots on "Be Still My Soul."

7) Post-assessment on "Be Still My Soul." We will record ourselves performing this piece again, then we will listen to an analyze our performance? Did we grow? If so, how and why? If we didn't, why not?

8) "Appalachian Folk Dance" (we will use the same rehearsal and assessment techniques as "Be Still My Soul")

9) Exit ticket! (Comments on Google Classroom - UNDER the parent post)
