6th Grade Band

Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!

Today we will be continue working on Happy! Our last rehearsal went very well, but we didn't have time to get through everything! Today We we want to get to all of our pieces and rate them on our scale. We also want to talk about what we need to do to improve them.

Our Learning Targets:

(Percussion)  I can play a single stroke, double stroke, and five stroke roll. I can play flams and flam taps. Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major and chromatic scale.

I can play the introduction to Happy at a 2 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the beginning of The Finale from the Firebird at  a 2 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the entirety of the Theme from Symphony #9 at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play all three pieces straight through without stopping and know what I have to work on to make it better (notes, articulations, rhythms, dynamics)

Here is our plan:

1) Objective discussion: while you walk in you will hearing a recording of Happy! Get set up and in your seats quickly.  Make sure you have your red clip. We will review our learning targets. You will find a copy of "Happy" on your stand set up and ready to go. New bathroom/question routine will be reviewed.

2) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

3) It's time for Happy. Drummers, you need your awesome rock beats that you learned during the drum set unit in percussion class and we need as many volunteers as possible! We will be taking this in two sections: the beginning to 18 and 18-34. The primary rehearsal technique will be student conductors, teacher modeling, and the STAR sight reading protocol.

4) Theme from Symphony #9. (Who wants to defend the choice to play classical music at the next concert?)

5) Finale from Firebird.

6) Practicing assignments!

I look forward to seeing you for excel!
