8th Grade PLC

You will need your instruments and music. Today we will be working on Uptown Funk Michael Jackson's Thriller and My Favorite Things along with 3 chorales and a new steady beat / rhythm game. You will also be receiving UpTown Funk today!

We will be covering 3 major scales and the chromatic scales in warm ups, and making sure we have Smart Music and Embouchure / technique goals set for everyone, and that you know what those goals are! There is a TON to do. Drummers, we need to make sure our 6 essential rudiments are memorized and that our multiple bounce rolls sound "tight" and controlled.

Everything we do today will be with student conductors! We will be using thumbs up and thumbs down technique so I know who to help as I play with the band.

This might help. They are videos of excellent bands playing all of our songs, including one we made ourselves!

Our goal today is to "rough in" the ENTIRE concert. All three pieces need attention to make this happen, but Thriller needs the least attention (it is virtually performance ready) so we will leave that to last after warning up with it. Michael Jackson's Thriller:

My Favorite Things:

Uptown Funk:

Our Plan:
1) Welcome!

2) Discuss Band Council: schedule of meetings etc.

3) PACK and Band! (review)
     a) BRIEF review of our norms
     b) IMPORTANT. Is there anything you need today to be successful.

4) Warm Ups and Tune - "Tradition of Excellence Book 2 - Page 2 and page 42. Explain Bb, Eb, and F Concert major scales, the chormatic scale, the chorales, and audition requirements.

5) Western Region Audition Etude. Review of scales style for Western Region.Sharing of videos created for each scale, which are now on Google Classroom.

Break for Lunch

6) Preassess Uptown Funk

7) Rehearse Uptown Funk. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors (Mr. Akter will play with various sections to reinforce how the parts sound in your mind) sectional, and direct instruction.

8) "Thumbs up / thumbs down:" Who needs help and on what section? Direct instruction and sectionals to address needs.

9) Post assess: Was there growth? If so, why? If not, why not? What needs to be addressed next?

10) Preassess My Favorite Things

11) Rehearse My Favorite Things. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors (Mr. Akter will play with various sections to reinforce how the parts sound in your mind) sectional, and direct instruction.

Hi All!

Welcome to our band rehearsal. There is a LOT to do, and only 75 minutes to do it all, so we are going to have to purposeful and stay on track to get it all done. Today we are working on all three of our pieces, and we are going to be doing EVERYTHING with student conductors which should be a great deal of fun. I will be playing with various sections of the band today to help you out. We are going to be using a lot of thumbs up / thumbs down so I know where to go inside the rehearsal to help folks out. We are also going to be working with our 4 point rating scale.

I know it is tricky to try an play a full band arrangement from "scratch" so we are going to use a variety of techniques to help you understand "how it sounds" as we progress through these songs! These may help us. They are videos of a middle school band playing Pink Panther, Antiquitus, and a professional recording of A Little Mozart Suite! We will be using this especially to help us practice at home.

Pink Panther:

Antiquitus

A Little Mozart Suite:
