6th Grade Band - 9/18

Today is our excel excel playing rehearsal for 6th grade!

Our plan for today is broken into 4 parts

Learning Targets:
1) I can play several songs from last year including Hot Cross Buns (16),  Lightly Row (24), Jolly Old Saint Nicholas (32), Frere Jacques (81), Theme from Symphony #9
2) I can play Grandfather's Whiskers at a 3 of 4 on our four point rating scale.
3) I can define "partner song."
4) I can count the rhythms to Swing Low Sweet Chariot and All Night All Day and define what an African American spiritual is.
5) I understand how to do orchestra and jazz band if I want to.

Our Plan:
1) Sign in and find your seat!

2) Review the rules and expectations for class! Brief talk about our Core Pack Values and how they relate to band.

3) Warm Up - Quick Standard of Excellence Book 1 review! Hot Cross Buns (16),  Lightly Row (24), Jolly Old Saint Nicholas (32), Frere Jacques (81), Theme from Symphony #9.  If you do not have your book do not panic! I have extras for most instruments. If I don't have an extra you can look on with a friend. But from now on PLEASE remember your book!

4) Grandfather's Whiskers! (is it a 3? If so, great! If not, why not and how can we get it there?)

5) Introduce Swing Low Sweet Chariot and All Night All Day. Discuss partner songs and African American spirituals.

6) Introduce teacher selected pieces!

7) Student selected pieces.

8) Please remember to practice!

9)  Explanation of Google Classroom and Practice / homework procedures

I am really looking forward to seeing you and working with you today!
