Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!
Today we will be discussing our student selected pieces. Twist and Shout will be out on your stands. We also want to run the remaining songs to keep them fresh in our mind. We only have two weeks before the concert. It is very important we keep our three concert ready pieces in good shape and not focus too much time on Twist and Shout.
Our Learning Targets:
(Percussion) I can play a single stroke, double stroke, and five stroke roll. I can play flams and flam taps. Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major and chromatic scale.
I can play all of The Finale from the Firebird at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.
I can play the entirety of the Theme from Symphony #9 at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.
I can play Happy at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale
I can play the introduction to Twist and Shout at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.
Here is our plan:
1) Get set up and in your seats quickly. Make sure you have your red clip. We will review our learning targets. You will find a copy of "Twist and Shout" on your instrument stand. New bathroom/question routine will be reviewed.
2) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments
3) Run the concert as is. Try student conductors! Discuss conducting for concert.
4) Introduce the introduction to Twist and Shout. Instructional techniques include teacher modeling and direct instruction.
5) After working on Twist and Shout we are going to run the other 3 pieces from our concert as if we were performing them.
6) Rating scale discussion. What went well? Why? What didn't go well? Why? What do we need to practice this week?
7) Practicing assignments!
I look forward to seeing you for excel!
