7th and 8th Grade Band


Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 7th and 8th Grade!

Welcome to our final official combined rehearsal before the concert. Last rehearsal we did a good job making sure Mars was up to speed. Today we are going to warm up with Jesu and Mars and then focus the entirety of our rehearsal on Hamilton Auditions.

Our Learning Targets:

(Drums)  I can play 2 variations of the hip hop beat on the drum set at least a 3 on my 4 point rating scale.

Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major, Eb major, and F major scale with arpeggio

I can evaluate my performance using our 4 point rating scale and give concrete examples of how to improve.

I can play Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring at a 3 or more on our 4 point rating scale.

I can play My Shot from Hamilton at a 3 or more on our 4 point rating scale.

I can play Mars by Holst at a 3 or more on our 4 point rating scale.

Here is our plan:

1) Take your red clip and sign in! We have extra copies of all the music in the section already.

2) Objective discussion: where are we with concert preparation?

3) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

4) Run the concert. Assess each piece as it played.

5) Focus our attention on Hamilton.  Continue our rapping auditions!

6) Practicing Assignments and final concert reminders.

6th Grade Band


Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!

Today our goal is to run the entire concert, including Twist and Shout! I think we are going to be able to do all 4 pieces, and I am very excited. We are going to need to a student conductor though for Twist and Shout.

Our Learning Targets:

(Percussion)  I can play a single stroke, double stroke, and five stroke roll. I can play flams and flam taps. Wind and bells: I can play a concert Bb major and chromatic scale.

I can play all of The Finale from the Firebird at  a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play the entirety of the Theme from Symphony #9 at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

I can play Happy at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale

I can play all of Twist and Shout at a 3 (or greater) on our rating scale.

Here is our plan:

1) Get set up and in your seats quickly.  Make sure you have your red clip. We will review our learning targets. You will find a copy of "Twist and Shout" on your instrument stand. New bathroom/question routine will be reviewed.

2) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

3) Run the concert as is. Try student conductors! Discuss conducting for concert.

4) Discuss each piece thinking of our rating school. How did we do? What needs improvement? Rehearse sections as needed.

5) Practicing assignments!

6th Grade PLC


Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 6th grade!

Today we will be discussing our student selected pieces. Twist and Shout will be out on your stands. We also want to run the remaining songs to keep them fresh in our mind. We only have two weeks before the concert. It is very important we keep our three concert ready pieces in good shape and not focus too much time on Twist and Shout.

Our Learning Targets:

Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 7th and 8th Grade!

Welcome to our 2nd official combined rehearsal before the concert. Today our goal is to run the whole concert and use our rating scale to self assess and see if there was improvement from last rehearsal. We need to return to practicing "Mars" from the planets to bring it up to speed with our other 2 pieces.

8th Grade Band


Hello and welcome to our rehearsal for 8th Grade!

We have a lot to do today and we have shortened periods due to SBAC. Our goal today is to refresh Mars in our minds and be able to play the piece through successfully at at least a 2 on our 4 point rating scale.

Our Learning Targets:

I can play Mars at a 2 or greater on  our 4 point rating scale

Here is our plan:

1) Take your red clip and sign in! We have extra copies of all the music in the section already.

2) Objective discussion: Mars

3) Warm Ups! - Scales and rudiments

4) Mars! Rehearse in sections with modeling. Run through the whole piece. Is it at least a 2? If not why not? What can we do to improve this piece?

5) If there is time run Hamilton with Rapper. Review hip hop beat on drum set.

9) Practicing Assignments.
