Welcome to our first playing lesson! Our plan for today is broken into 4 parts
1) Review the rules and expectations we wrote as a class yesterday
2) Standard of Excellence Book 1 review! (we'll play through the main songs from last year and check to see where a good starting place is for our class. Usually we begin at page 30 or 31 depending on our review)
3) Start a new page! We will be working on snare, bass, timpani, and mallets! This will be our practicing assignment for the week.
4) On to Google Classroom and online music activities.
I am really looking forward to seeing you and working with you today!

7th Grade Drummers!
Welcome to our second lesson! We will begin with a quick review of the norms and expectations that we wrote yesterday.
All the drums are set up. Today's lesson will be divided into 4 parts.
Part One:
Tradition of Excellence Book 2! We are going to be doing a lot of work out of the book this year. We need to make sure we have a copy. I do have some extras here for an emergency. Our goal this week is to master lesson one on Timpani, Snare, Bass, and Mallets. We will be working in teams to achieve this.
Part Two:
Drum set unit: This year we need to review the rock, swing, and latin beats. We will be working more on the Bossa Nova, and covering fills and improvised solos in each major style.
Part Three: Western Region Audition Information and information for orchestra and jazz band auditions.
Part Four: Online activities! We need to make sure we are all on Google Classroom and all have access to a device so that we can do our online music activities.

First Lesson Plan
Welcome to band class! This year you will be getting a band lesson for 1/3rd of the year during the "band mini" if you are in 7th or 8th grade, and ½ of the year if you are in 6th grade. The remainder of the year you will have your lesson during excel. I always post the lesson plan for the next day on the blog, so you can know what to expect. Those of you who have the band mini this week don't need your instruments. This week the lesson plan is the same for every band "mini."
Our Plan:
1) Welcome! Name game for the 6th graders!
2) "Switch Spots! Quick!"
This will be a fun game. We are going to form a circle, move around, and get to know one another a bit.
3) Snowball fight!
I love this activity. It's a way for me to get know you guys a bit. It is an activity that allows you to anonymously share information about what your hopes are about the upcoming band year, and helps me to address the band members' needs.
4) Band Room Norms: after we run around and have some fun getting to know each other we are going to be spending some time discussing the norms of the band room. Your feedback will go into creating the norms.
5) Onto Google Classroom!
6) Have a wonderful start to the year!
