6th Grade PLC

Hi All!

Welcome to our band rehearsal. There is a LOT to do, and only 75 minutes to do it all, so we are going to have to purposeful and stay on track to get it all done. Last week we didn't get to Antiquitus and instead focused on Mozart. Today we are going to do Antiquitus.

You will walk in to recordings of "A Little Mozart Suite" and "Antiquitus," our two teacher selected pieces. You will sign in on the sign in sheet and take your seat in band. (click on the names of the pieces for audio recordings)

Last rehearsal we successfully worked on "A Little Mozart Suite" so today we are going to focus on introducing "Antiquitus." We need to hear a recording of the piece first. I know it is tricky to try an play a full band arrangement from "scratch" so we are going to use a variety of techniques to help you understand "how it sounds" as we progress through the song!

1) PACK and Band!
    a) Quick review of our norms
    b) REALLY important: is there anything you need now to be successful? Anything getting in the         way of your learning? Please let me know.

2) Warm Up Time! We are going to warm up with songs from the red book. This will also serve as a a quick review of last year's learning.
     1) Red book #s 16, #24 (two parts), #39, #51, #63, #81, #88,#131

3) New learning! (Page 31 and 32 in Red Book)

4) Listen to our pieces. While you are listening Mr. Akter will hand out music to those who do not have it.

5) Direct Instruction on "Antiquitus"

6) Student Conductors on "Antiquitus"

7) Sectionals on "Antiquitus"

8) Thumbs up formative assessment. How are we doing? How needs help on given sections? Reteach as necessary.

9) Direct instruction and post assessment on "Antiquitus"

10) Mozart Suite

11) Exit ticket! (Comments on Google Classroom - UNDER the parent post)

Chorus Lesson Plan 10/28

Hi Chorus! To keep us going I will be running choral rehearsals until Mrs. Wittman's replacement can start! I am very excited. This is not my first time running a chorus rehearsal, but it has been awhile, and I am excited to dig into this wonderful music with you for awhile!

Here is our first lesson plan:

1) Vocal warm up with piano. (5-10 minutes)

2) Solfege. Echo patterns. Sing harmonies with solefege patterns. These patterns will match exactly what I am going to be asking you to sing in "Unwritten," which is the first piece we will be rehearsing today. (5 mintues)

3) Listen to "Unwritten." (5 minutes)

4) Count sixteenth note patterns. (5 minutes)

5) After counting sixteenth note patterns we are going to sing 11-29. We are going to practice counting these rhythms while singing, and using solfege while singing to work on parts singing and intoniation. (20 minutes)

6) Add lyrics to our rhythms and harmony parts.(5 minutes)

7) Closure: discussion of what needs practice and why. How to practice for next week!
