6th Grade PLC

What an AMAZING rehearsal last B day! You sounded great on two of the three pieces are preparing for this concert. We need the most work on "Happy," so that is the piece we will be rehearsing first today.

Lesson Plan:
1) Warm ups: Red Books.
2) Field trip: Last reminders. Final Groups.
3) Reminder about Blue Books (most of us are coming up on Book 2!)
4) Tuning
5) Direct Instruction on "Happy"
6) Rehearse "Happy" using direct instruction, student conductors, and sectionals.
7) Direct instruction on "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (no more than 10 minutes)
8) Other rehearsal techniques - student conductors, and sectionals
9) Performances by section. Work on cleaning/making perfect.
10) Run through, record, and assess.
11) Run "Roar." Assess performance, then rehearse. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors, teacher modeling, and sectionals.
12) Run the entire concert and assess our state of readiness.

13) Discuss plan for further improvement. Did we make progress from last rehearsal?

8th Grade PLC!

Our next concert performance is already starting to take shape. Our rehearsal structure will be very similar to the last time we met. I said this before, and it bears repeating! You folks sound fantastic, but there is a lot of work to be done! There are 50 of you, and 31 are continuing in band next year at the high school. Wonderful! But we need excellence not just from 31, or 41, or you. We need excellence from ALL of you! Keep practicing! Keep working! Be the best musician you can be. The better you get this year, the more likely music will be a part of your life for years to come. Whatever you choose to do at the high school with band, keep playing your instrument, even if it is just for you and no one else. It will enrich your life.

Today's lesson plan:
1) Scales
2) Chorales
3) Tuning
4) "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, arranged by Murtha.
Lunch Break!
5) Little Mermaid
6) Run through, record, and self assess.  Discuss trouble spots
7) Rehearse sections. Rehearsal methods include direct instruction, sectionals, and student conductors.
8) Run through and self assess. Was there growth? If yes, why? If not, why not?
9) Revisit the planets: run through and then various rehearsal techniques
10) Closure.

Have an amazing week!
