7th Grade PLC

Thanks for all the feedback on the concert in your survey results. Your feedback shows a high level of self-knowledge and clearly indicates what we need to work on next time to make our performance even better. That's what it's all about! Reflection and constant growth.

Today's lesson plan:
1) Scales
2) Chorales
3) Tuning
4) Hand out "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, arranged by Murtha.
5) Listen to "Superstition"  by Stevie Wonder, arranged by Murtha.
6) Rehearse sections. Rehearsal methods include direct instruction, sectionals, and student conductors.
7) Revisit the planets: run through and then various rehearsal techniques
8) Closure.

Have an amazing week!

Hi Everyone,

Again, what a wonderful concert! I really enjoyed reading the results of your post-concert survey. I think you displayed a lot of self-awareness with they way you rated your performance and discussed the things we had to work on for next time. Just a great job!

Today we are working on two of our pieces: Roar, and In the Hall of the Mountain King. I am very excited about the next performance at the end of the year.

Lesson Plan:
1) Warm ups: Red Books.
2) Reminder about Blue Books (most of us are coming up on Book 2!)
3) Tuning
4) Roar. Review of last class' learning. Listen to the recording.
5) Run "Roar." Assess performance, then rehearse. Rehearsal techniques include student conductors, teacher modeling, and sectionals.
6) Direct Instruction on Roar (about 10 minutes)
7) Run "Roar." Assess performance. Did we grow? If yes, why? If not, why not?
8) Listen to "In the Hall of the Mountain King."
9) Direct instruction on "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (no more than 10 minutes)
10) Other rehearsal techniques - student conductors, and sectionals
11) Closure.

AMAZING CONCERT EVERYONE! I could not be happier. We've already done a thorough concert assessment, and least rehearsal you filled out your online concert survey. Today we will take some time to discuss those survey results and lessons learned, and will put those results down in a shared document so we don't forget for next concert. It is important that we stay committed to constant improvement, but I really feel that was the best concert we have ever given.

Today's lesson plan:
1) Scales
2) Chorales
3) Tuning
4) Hand out "Themes from the Planets" by Holst, arranged by Wagner.
5) Listen to "Themes from the Planets"  by Holst, arranged by Wagner.
6) Rehearse sections. Rehearsal methods include direct instruction, sectionals, and student conductors.
7) Discussion of survey results.
8) Closure.

Have an amazing week!
